Thanks to Jenny and Bethel for organizing some great new polo shirts for our competitors to wear so they can show their Rio Grande pride.
HB rating
Good luck to Toni, Alex, Suzanna, and Caitlyn who will be traveling to Red River for the HB rating on August 20-22. We wish you all well and hope that you have to opportunity to meet some pony clubbers from out of region and make some new friends!
Rating Prep:
The Region is offering a rating prep for members wishing to take their C3 and above ratings August 28-29 at Pine Hill. Claire Harmon will instruct. Members registered for our fall Traditional and Dressage Specialty C3 and B national ratings as well as members intending to participate in a national C3, B or A testing within the next year are encouraged to participate. The cost is
$200 to inlcude all instruction, stabling, grounds fee, accomodation in the Pine Hill apartment and meals. Registration information is currently being distributed. Contact Bethel Hart for more information or questions. bethelhart@att.net 281-373-4934.
C3/B Rating:
We will be hosting the largest national rating ever this coming October 9-10. There will be a C3 and B dressage specialty and C3 and B traditional rating. These ratings will take a lot of volunteers. We are starting to get our volunteers lined up. Let me know if you would be interested in helping at one of these ratings. We need all kinds of help, from jump crew and barn friendlies to IO’s. This would be a great opportunity to see a rating from the inside out. Be watching for more details.
Annual Regional Council Meeting:
Make sure that you have marked the date – October 30 for the annual regional council meeting.
Past Events:
Jumper Derby
If you missed the Jumper Derby, you missed a spectacular event. This is the most organized show that I ever attended. Bethel did a fabulous job giving Pony Club some very positive PR. The prizes were terrific, with beautiful ribbons and even neck ribbons for the champions. The volunteers were well organized and nicely appreciated for their efforts. Many thanks to:
Claudia for being the technical delegate
Leisha for being the jump judge
Andy for being the EMT
Sharon for scoring and being the judge’s assistant
Toni and Julie who were timers and worked the start box
Tom and Terry who were the jump crew
Linda and Karen for running the great concession stand
Allie and Erica for helping with awards
Laura for registration and warm up stewart
Kelly for warm up stewart
Glynda for membership table
Brittney and McKenna for Jump Judging
Emily for registration, awards and pictures
And the most thanks to Bethel for organizing this great event that raised over $2000 that will be used to help underwrite the cost of a future riding clinic.

Standards and Rating Clinic
Thanks to Vicki Taylor for once again hosting the Standards and Ratings Clinic and Riding Clinic. The clinic was moved to Bee Creek Farm when arrangements fell through on the facility that had been previously booked for the event, Terri Roccovich and Vicki prepared the riders and presented the rating material at the clinic. Many Pony Clubbers and horsemasters enjoyed the riding clinic following the standards and ratings clinic. Many, many thanks to Vicki to opening her farm to host this event.
Upper Level Camp/Horsemasters Camp
We had great turn out of Upper Level Pony Clubbers for the Upper Level Camp with Shelley Kincaid. Shelley was able to prove insights for all participants in dressage, grid, stadium, and cross country. Everyone really enjoyed working with Shelley. We hope that she will make her way back to Texas again at a slightly cooler time of the year. All the kids: Becky, Mary Frances, Tori, Emily, Melissa, Toni, Aly, Caitlyn, and Stephanie (plus there was 1 girl from Red River, did I miss anyone else?) had the opportunity to improve their mounted and unmounted skills. A few horsemasters endured the heat to participate in the camp as well. Many thanks to Vicki Taylor for organizing the camp. We all missed you, Vicki. Thanks to Julie B, Cathy, Trish, and Kim for running the camp. These ladies went above and beyond to make sure that our Upper Level kids were able to have a great camp and be able to concentrate on improving their skills.
Regional Camp
This was the second largest camp that Rio Grande Region has ever hosted! I hope that all the pony clubbers that attended enjoyed the slightly different venue this year. It really takes a village to put together regional camp. If you have not been part of this camp it is hard to understand how much work is required to have a good camp. Thanks, as always, to Vicki for organizing the camp and to Kim for handling registration and taking over as camp director. Thanks to all the camp volunteers: Julie H, Tracy, and Emily for organizing the unmounted program, Jenny for being the J Bar J organizer, Counselors: Suzanna, Emily, Melissa, Caitlyn, and Stephanie. Thanks also to our dedicated chaperones: Cathy, Jenny, Karen, Sarah, Julie B, Cindy, Nina, Cheryl, and Tracy. Thanks also to Kathy for organizing snacks, taking care of sick kids, helping take care of the volunteers. And thanks to the many instructors: Kim, Ruth Bobbie, Molly, Emily, Melissa, Cautlyn, Suzanna, and Stephanie. We could not have done the camp without all these wonderful volunteers.
Other News:
Congratulations to Kim who traveled to Eastern PA region to take her HB test in July. Kim is our newest HB! Good work!
Welcome Back!
We are really glad to have Hood returning as an active club. They have had their first sponsor’s meeting and Lee Earnshaw has stepped up to be the DC of that club. Thanks Lee and Michelle for getting things rolling again with Hood!
